Stipendien
Many students do not know that they have the chance to apply for scholarships. Therefore, here is a brief introduction to some scholarship programs that you can apply for before or during your bachelor’s degree.
Probably the best known program is the Deutschlandstipendium (https://u.fs-etit.de/deutschlandstipendium). With this one can apply every year at the department and receives 300 euros per month paid out repayment-free for one year if accepted. Half of the program is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and half by company donations. Some companies also offer the opportunity to make contacts through the Deutschlandstipendium and provide internships or work-study positions for their scholarship holders. Tipp: Die erste Bewerbung ist sehr einfach und dauert nur ein paar Minuten, also kann man es immer versuchen! Die Frist läuft noch bis zum 07.10.2022.
Another great option is the 13 gifted programs.
They are all listed at https://stipendiumplus.de.
These offer support throughout the entire course of study.
In addition to a BAföG-dependent lump sum, a book allowance of 300 euros is also distributed and various seminars are offered.
In addition, language trips, stays abroad and other activities receive extra financial support.
The money comes from the BMBF.
There are works that are close to political parties, churches, unions or business.
The Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes is the largest organization that supports gifted students and is not affiliated with any organization.
If you would like to apply to one of these organizations, you will need to find out about them individually, as the requirements and application deadlines differ.
For some programs, the priority is on particularly good grades, and for others on a pronounced social commitment.
Thematically somewhat closer to our department is the funding opportunity of the Thomas Weiland Foundation. Founded in 2014 with the purpose of supporting young scientists in STEM subjects (mathematics, computer science, natural science and technology), the foundation has awarded eight scholarships this year for bachelor and master students in the amount of 750€ per month. Just check out the overview page with application information in the future and apply if you are interested.
If you ask around in the (digital) learning center or in the (digital) student council, you will surely meet people who are currently scholarship holders or once were. Of course, you can also ask them personally about their experiences and the application process.
